Shiny old stuff

I pulled out old leather folders and bags unused for a long time. They had been gathering dust and nearly growing mould. I sat them down, despite the late and odd hour and carefully cleaned them. The leather cleanser read “clean with a cloth using light circular movements”. The apt cleansers and the right mind-set. The closets- the metaphysical and the mental ones, need an order sometimes- to be able to refer to the right contents, to rid the clutter and the dust. We need to weed out the unnecessary things, sometimes when they don’t need us and sometimes when we don’t need them. Everything in life needs nurturing, occasional cleaning and lots of sunlight.

sometimes the dust should also remind you of how loooong the things have been unattended. and you should probably understand why were they left in that condition. sometimes they dont need us and sometimes we dont need them... apt..

a very beautiful and a sensible thght.. we humans are cluttered with trash of everyday life and chase things which r not very urgent to attend and leave behind ppl and matters which requires our care and attention.

easy to say but a lil tuff to do !!

keep up the gud work.

agree with d above...
n also how do we know wat we'll need and what we wont? i hate wantin/lookin for something/someone that i impulsively let go..sometimes with some things around (or in easy reach) we'll never know if they're needed but maybe they need to be there to add a certain perspective.
also 'need' is such a selfish word.. in the perfect cosmic state of nature everything has a life and purpose...

Cleaning and polishing old bags metaphorically and literally is relaxing - I agree - but only when does randomly and once in a while, not periodically or deliberately :)

Then the purpose is never served

we never know what we need, unless we spare a thought- assess our requirements- both erstwhile and new. I like the word- need- at least we mean it. The word "purpose" is trying to tone the reality down, mask it with niceties. I like things in black and white, and when I venture into grey, I like to deal with it and put it away forever.

well written rachita. every now and then in life we "need" a little introspection regarding where we are to help us mature into better beings{if such a euphoric state exists...}

Hmmm...agree. But there is a catch. The 'need' is perhaps to identify what separates a 'need' from a 'want'. The bag may need cleaning, I may not want to clean it; heck, i would even go the extent of saying that had the bag worn a living persona, it might have refused to be cleaned. Some things love dust. It covers the true skin colour.
